Sundays on Broadway co-curators Owen Prum and Weis present an evening of video and performances by Jon Kinzel, K.J. Holmes, Ella Dawn W-S, and video by CW.

Jon Kinzel will present Manhattan Terminus (working title), a work in progress performed by Kinzel, Fabio Tavares and special guest Anne Iobst, co-founder of DANCENOISE and longtime friend of Sundays on Broadway. About the work, Kinzel writes: “The making of duet material with Tavares happened in tandem with the production of numerous artworks that could be seen as an inexhaustible sequence with no arrival point, without finality, that reflect the transitional nature of being an aging dancer whose body is an instrument in flux. And to question the value of un-reproducibility and a way for fiction to meet an experimental memoir of sorts.”

Due to unforeseen events, Julie Mayo will not be able to join us this season. Stepping up to the plate in her stead, K.J. Holmes will be performing a solo improvisation inspired by the writings of Steve Paxton.

Ella Dawn W-S’s writes "Trace effort (working title) is a duet, delineating the relationship between the dancers through proximal configurations of vertical opposition. Testing the sturdiness, we keep pressing and pressing to see what it can hold. Sometimes it looks like nothing’s happening, because nothing's happening. I'm draped over a cinder block, you’re lying underneath a mirror with the yellow vinyl unfurling outward."

CW will show an excerpt of archival footage she shot back in the day.

Artists' Bios:

Jon Kinzel has presented his work, including numerous commissions and solo shows, in a variety of national and international venues. He has contributed to online and print publications such as SFMoMA Open Space, Schizm Magazine, MR Performance Journal, and PAJ: A Journal of Performance and Art; he has served as a curator, dance dramaturg, and sound designer, and he has been awarded residencies at NYLA, BAC, EMPAC, BAX, The Invisible Dog, Gibney, The Yard, Jacob’s Pillow, Dance House, Movement Research, and Telematic Media Arts. As a current Guggenheim Fellow, he is deepening his interrelated choreographic and visual art practice. More recently, he has performed and collaborated with Vicky Shick, Rinde Eckert, Margaret Jenkins, Risa Jaroslow, Elena Demyanenko, Yvonne Rainer, Emily Coates, Cathy Weis, Jennifer Miller, Nina Katan, Jodi Melnick, Mimi Yin, Jarrod Beck, Seline Baumgartner, John Kelly, Patricia Hoffbauer, Nicky Paraiso, and John Jesurun.

Dance artist K.J. Holmes travels nationally and internationally teaching and performing at universities, festivals, and unexpected venues. She has performed/collaborated with Simone Forti, Lisa Nelson/Image Lab, Steve Paxton, Karen Nelson, filmmaker Matthew Barney, poet Julie Carr, musicians Jeremy Carlstedt, Juan Ignacio Ferreras, Roy Campbell Jr., choreographers Miguel Gutierrez, Xavier LeRoy, and Karinne Keithley Syers, in a recent dance video of music artist Mitski, among many others. She is currently creating Blu/print, an ensemble dance/music collaboration begun under the mentorship of musician/composer Henry Threadgill fall 2023 through a grant from NYS Choreographers Initiative. Holmes is an adjunct faculty at New York University/ETW and Movement Research. She has led Art as Experience events at MoMA, and assisted Simone Forti in reconstructing her Dance Constructions. Her teaching is not separate from her art-making; she brings her practices together in an alchemy of experiential life and living.

Fabio Tavares is a Brazilian artist who’s been forever obsessed with the human body in action. Fabio moved to NYC in 1999 and has collaborated and performed with Yvonne Meyer, chameckilerner, Miguel Gutierrez, Fisherspooner, Noemie Lafrance, Luis Lara Malvacías, Jeniffer Monson, Circus Amok, John Heginbotham, Laurie Anderson,The Dazzle Dancers, Stanley Love, Anne Bogart and the acclaimed SITI Company among others. Mr. Tavares has also danced with Elizabeth STREB and her extreme-action company for 14 years where he served as the Associate Artistic Director for a decade.

Ella Dawn W-S is a dancer and choreographer living in Brooklyn. She presents work under the name Dancews. As a performer, she has had the honor of working with Lu Yim, Vita Taurke, Lavinia Eloise Bruce, SECT, inc., Zoe Papaeracleous, Erik Thurmond, Phoebe Berglund, and Kiera Bono.

Cathy Weis is a dancer, choreographer, videographer, producer, and founder of Sundays on Broadway. She has been a soloist in the Louisville Ballet, played in a cello quartet in Europe, tap-danced on the streets of San Francisco, and did a stint as a disco queen. She moved to New York City in 1983 and has been the recipient of many honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in dance and recipient of a Bessie Award for creativity.
